For the past year, the University of Michigan Library IT (LIT) division has been devoting time & resources to conducting a thorough self-assessment. These efforts have included discussions focused on our application infrastructure, our division communication patterns, and our service workflows. And while these discussions were instrumental in helping identify challenges and potential solutions, we wanted to begin to collect hard data to help better understand the complexity of our work.

Suspense and Sensibility is part of a mystery series where Fitzwilliam and Elizabeth Darcy from Pride and Prejudice meet characters from Jane Austen's other novels. Kitty Bennet from Pride and Prejudice becomes engaged to Harry Dashwood from Sense and Sensibility, but he begins acting strangely as soon as they announce their engagement. We have recently purchased this very rare Japanese book on surgery for our History of Medicine Collection, which is particularly comprehensive on the history of surgery from the Middle Ages throughout the Renaissance. Since our holdings on this subject mainly focus on Western medicine, this Japanese imprint is a long overdue addition, being an extraordinary witness of one of many cultural exchanges between Japan and Europe from the sixteenth century onward.

Join us this Thursday, November 12th at 4:00 p.m. in the Hatcher Library Gallery for a lecture by donor and adjunct curator Jan Longone on Dining Out: Menus, Chefs, Restaurants, Hotels, & Guidebooks. Jan's lecture will delve into the development, selection process, and contents of this exhibition of the history of the eating out experience. The Exhibit will be on display (Hatcher, 2nd floor) in the Clark Map Library through January 19, 2016.

This month was a busy time for the CVGA, mostly due to our Gender & Gaming Symposium that took place in the Hatcher Gallery. We also got several new games in our collection, including Madden NFL 16 and Super Mario Maker, both featured in our top 10 games list for October. In addition, we saw a couple of older favorites make the list, including The Last of Us and Guitar Hero III.
