The Midwest Victorian Studies Association (MVSA) held its annual conference in Ann Arbor this year in April, presenting a prime opportunity for us to showcase some of the University of Michigan Special Collections Library’s relevant materials. The Librarian for English Language and Literature, Sigrid Cordell, and student University Library Associate Ikumi Crocoll worked together to create an exhibit that related to this year’s conference theme, Victorian violence.

News from our fearless leader, Dave: The CVGA finally enters the world of mobile gaming this week with the addition of an iPad Air to our collection of gaming platforms.

The Lee Walp Family Juvenile Book Collection is a trove of children’s literature, representing authors and illustrators throughout the 20th century both through published works and through correspondence, clippings, and original artwork. The collection is now completely cataloged and can be requested in Mirlyn for use in the Reading Room.

The Alfred Rodman Hussey Papers have arrived at Special Collections! Alfred Rodman Hussey played a very important role in drafting the new Japanese constitution and restructuring the Japanese government during the Allied occupation of Japan post-WWII. This blog post discusses the processing of these papers that has led to the increased discoverability and improved storage of the materials, added experience for the student University Library Associate, and a finding aid and catalog record.

After running for over a decade, BlueStream was retired on June 30th, 2014.

The library recently completed a successful, six-month pilot program for a new model of web content oversight. Each division appointed a web content coordinator to represent them, and together the coordinators work in library-wide issues.
