Shapiro Creepy Crafts Party / Hatcher Haunts Tours

This Halloween, we went deep into the Hatcher Library stacks and the Hatcher Library lore with our Hatcher Haunts tours. We had a great time sharing the history of the building (did you know it was built in two parts?), showing off some of its unusual architectural features (there’s a door between floors above the basement!), and even trick or treating at librarians’ office doors (thanks for the candy)! In our six total tours, four on the 24th and two on Halloween itself, we got to share these with 48 patrons.

When not exploring Hatcher, our not-so-ghoulish guests spent time in the Shapiro Library’s 3rd Floor Gallery working on some pretty spooky crafts. From origami bats to rainbow scratch art pumpkins, there was something for everyone. And for the less artistically inclined, we had a treat-go-bag building station as well as a “Guess how much candy is in this jar” challenge! In short, it was a scary good time. Thank you so much for everyone who helped make this event possible and to all of this year’s attendees! And a happy Halloween to all!
