This event was founded by the sisters of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Incorporated at the Beta Omicron chapter at the University of Michigan. A little history about Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc(LTA), we were founded in December of 1975 at Kean University in Union, New Jersey. LTA was recognized as the first Latina sorority ever created to cater towards the needs of Latinos in higher education. Traditionally, the role of the Latina woman consisted of maintaining the family institution and falling into the marginalization of their machista partners. With the growth of Latino migration to the United States, the emergence of independent Latin women grew as well. With this growth, the need for support groups and outreach programs were at an all time high. This was true for all women and especially for the low percentage of Latina Women in higher education. As a result seventeen lovely women convened to discuss the formation of a sorority for Latina women. This sorority’s main purpose was to create a support group for women of color in a predominantly white society. Its focus was to integrate into social, political, and community service areas that other students had been involved with. Together, as a united front they could collaborate and assist with any student and run programs. On January 23rd, 2000 eight Lovely Ladies felt the need to promote these values on the University of Michigan campus. This allowed independent Latina women on campus to feel a sense of belonging and with that. Achieve their highest potential. It would define a new role for Latina women, one with education, goals and vision in hope of great success.

Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. Beta Omicron Chapter (2024-2025)
Formally known as the Latino Greek Exhibition, the purpose of the Multicultural Greek Exhibition (MGX) is to expose and educate students across campus to the Multicultural Greek culture. This event brings light to the unheard voices of minorities by giving them space to showcase their traditions such as saluting, strolling, stepping, and dancing, which encompass their unique Greek customs. It is important to continue these efforts in an attempt to increase diversity and awareness across campus; this event has proved successful in that area. We hope to showcase not only the distinct organizations and their members, but also the aspect of cultural diversity that many students, staff, and faculty on this campus have expressed great interest in learning more about. MGX educates the broader community in an exciting way that leads to audience involvement.
This event will provide campus and the student body with a different view of what Greek Life is and its purpose. Many individuals have the misconception that Greek Life only focuses on cultivating social experiences, and associate it with the negative stereotypes proclaimed on social media. MGX helps combat these negative stigmas and stereotypes by demonstrating that Greeks are more than a social scene; Greeks are rooted in tradition, community service, philanthropy, and much more. With exhibitions like this, it provides individuals with the opportunity to question the negative stereotypes of Greek Life and provide them with a broader and clearer understanding of what Greek Life is. To promote both diversity and unity, we have extended our invitation to several Multicultural Greek organizations on this campus. We hope to promote this event as one that is opened to the public. This includes, but is certainly not limited to both high school and college students, University of Michigan staff and faculty, Ann Arbor residents, and all others wishing to attend.
We had a great turn out as eight multicultural Greek organizations participated in the event. This included; Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Delta Tau Lambda Sorority, Inc. Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity Inc. Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. Alpha Kappa Delta Phi. Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc. Also the sisters of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. Everyone had a great performance that lasted around 3 minutes each. There were around 80 people in the audience that came to enjoy the show as well. They were either friends, chapters, alumni, family and even people that just came out of curiosity. Everyone watched the performances and enjoyed the snacks that were provided. Which were frituras, a deep fried mexican snack. It was made by the sister of LTA. Along with different flavored Mexican waters, like horchata, jamaica and agua de limon. It was a successful event.
19th Annual Multicultural Greek Exhibition (MGX) 2025
We were able to hold a space where organizations had the chance to interact with each other as we held games for everyone to participate in including audience members. Each organization was able to showcase their tradition and unique performances they have to everyone. This event in all completed its main goals of bringing together the community and the multicultural greek council as well. Everyone came together to watch and support each other and everyone's traditions specific to them. Culture was spread through everyone's participation and it was felt throughout the audience making MGX fulfill its purpose.
Next steps for the Multicultural Greek Exhibition are to continue the plans for next year. Find ways to make it reach a larger audience and maybe get more organizations involved so they can spread their traditions too. Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. will continue to think of ways to enhance the Multicultural Greek Exhibition (MGX) for the following year. The continuation of MGX will allow for student organizations to continue growing and providing a community full of diversity for students to enjoy and make a difference in.
