On the 24th of March, students came to the 4th floor of Shapiro to enjoy an evening of board and video games thanks to the library’s Computer and Video Game Archive! We set up two rooms: the CVGA’s space for video game enjoyment, with the likes of Super Smash Brothers, Pac-Man, and Just Dance, and the classroom next door with board games like numerous puzzles, Jenga, and Candyland! This second room also had light snacks and beverages to power patrons up before they sat down to solve a puzzle or get their game on next door, as the CVGA has policies against food and open containers near consoles to ensure the archive stays in tip-top shape!

Both rooms saw groups of friends (both new and old) come together to either smash each other to bits in a virtual landscape or work in tandem to put an image together. Attendees were welcome to enter our Lego set raffle and, at the end of the night, 2 lucky winners came away with their very own sets to continue the fun at home!
If you missed it, there’s no need to worry! There might not be snacks lying around this time, but you can visit the CVGA any time during its hours of operation to play. Prefer board over video games? That’s no problem! Like many of our more traditional game-inclined visitors, you, too, can wander over to the CVGA to play many analog titles over its screen selections. I have been known to enjoy its tabletop manuals, party card games, and two-player logic puzzles on several occasions. All in all, it’s always a great time to unwind at the CVGA.

On the other hand, if the time for play is over and you now need to lock in for finals, come visit the Shapiro Library between 6 and 10 p.m. next Wednesday, April 23rd, and attend our Night Against Procrastination to gain access to even more Library study rooms and snacks to fuel you. And if you’re done early, pop into the CVGA and tell them the Ambassadors sent you. Game on!
