In November the Nam Center for Korean Studies will celebrate its 10th anniversary. The center will be holding a special Perspectives on Korea 2017 conference to commemorate this important milestone on November 17 and 18. Given Asia Library’s close partnership with the center, it seems only fitting that we would mark the occasion with a special event as well. “The 2017 Workshop on Korean Data Services” will take place the preceding two days, November 15 and 16. The 25 attendee slots for the workshop filled almost immediately. We will be welcoming in a stimulating mix of librarians who specialize in Korean studies as well as librarians who cover all of East Asia, with a few graduate students and scholars sprinkled in. They come from all corners of the US, as well as Canada, and even the Netherlands.
The keen interest in the workshop is not surprising: Korean Studies Librarian Yunah Sung (with a little help from yours truly and much more from Jungwon Yang, International Government Information and Public Policy Librarian, plus the sponsorship of the Nam Center) has come up with a packed agenda of sessions for the lucky 25. It’s a lineup that only U-M could deliver, including as it does a presentation by the ICPSR, as well as one about Deep Blue Data, our shiny new data repository. Librarians who specialize in social science data, GIS data, data visualization, Chinese data, Japanese data, and so on, are also on the program. We’re excited to be the site of this cutting edge workshop. Happy 10th Anniversary, Nam Center for Korean Studies!
