The Library’s Digital Collections Service team stewards over 200 collections. Our current technical infrastructure is old enough that it doesn’t allow us to provide new features or functionality easily, and sometimes not at all. A total replacement with a new repository will allow us to deliver critical upgrades to provide better access to and preservation of these collections. This blog post details the improvements we expect the upcoming new platform to provide over time.

As the User Experience and User Interface Designer embedded in Project DOR, it’s my responsibility to develop and test new interface designs that carry over all our insights and recommendations from the previous five years of research on Digital Collections. Our recent study on discovery in Digital Collections informed design and development plans for Project DOR, guiding us in decision making related to Generative AI integration in our soon-to-be built search system.

In July 2024, Library Information Technology launched Project DOR (Digital Object Repository), a multi-year project dedicated to the development of a new repository. The new repository will be used for digital collections to replace the existing digital collections platform. Project DOR will provide a brand new tailored solution for packaging, ingest, storage, and access to digital collections.
