Preserving the history of labor movements has been core to the Labadie Collection’s mission since its very beginnings more than a century ago. In 2016, two important collections on 20th century labor organizing have been arranged to better facilitate research. The Joyce Kornbluh Collection (3.25 linear ft.) and the Don Stewart IWW Collection (3 linear ft.) conserve evidence of the regular confrontations between workers, corporations, and government throughout the past hundred years.

The Ted Kaczynski Papers are part of the Special Collections Library’s Joseph A. Labadie Collection which documents the history of social protest movements and marginalized political communities from the 19th century to the present. The Ted Kaczynski papers were acquired in 1998 and the bulk of the collection includes correspondence written to and by Kaczynski since his arrest in 1996. Other materials in the archive include legal documents used during his trial, writings by Kaczynski, clippings and articles, some audiovisual material and FBI files.

The Alfred Rodman Hussey Papers have arrived at Special Collections! Alfred Rodman Hussey played a very important role in drafting the new Japanese constitution and restructuring the Japanese government during the Allied occupation of Japan post-WWII. This blog post discusses the processing of these papers that has led to the increased discoverability and improved storage of the materials, added experience for the student University Library Associate, and a finding aid and catalog record.
