Book Cloth: From Textile Bindings to Fashionable Fabric Samples

Join us on the 6th floor of Hatcher this Thursday, 15 January, between 4-6p for our first Third Thursdays at the Library event of the semester! This open house will feature the intersections of books and cloth across the centuries.

From textiles covering Ottoman Turkish manuscripts, to fabric samples in early 20th century fashion magazines and retail sample books, to contemporary artist’s books drawing on textile traditions, come explore how cloth forms part of the material culture of book-making, from substrate to binding.

While you’re here, pick up a Third Thursdays Passport and collect a stamp! Make it around to all four Third Thursday Open Houses — the Clark Library, International Studies, Asia Library, and the Special Collections Research Center — and win a prize!
