I love using Touch ID for authentication prompts in macOS, but I wanted to give a new keyboard a try. With this design on Printables, I headed to the Shapiro Design Lab Workshop to get printing.

This was the easist part. I had all the pieces printed after a few short hours, but my Touch ID module was still stuck inside my Magic Keyboard. I was thankfully able to leverage great work from the folks at iFixit and followed their teardown for ripping apart my keyboard.
And I mean rip apart. The Magic Keyboard is held together with some serious amounts of glue. After quite a bit of prying, and with the help of some heat from my iOpener tool, I managed to extract the components I needed.

I gave everything a quick test to make sure it still worked after disassembly and soon I was putting it back together in its new housing.

And voila! I now have a tiny little box so I can use Touch ID without the need for an entire keyboard taking up space on my desk. Time to find a new keyboard.
