Sewing Station - Sweater Mending with Pikmin

I have wanted to find ways to modify my clothing for years either because it didn’t fit the way I wanted it to or because there was a hole or other issue that made me not want to wear it. I decided that because I now had access to a sewing machine through the Shapiro Design Lab I would try to do that for the first time. I took a sweater of mine that I have loved dearly but that sadly had gotten a hole in it and decided that would be what I fixed. I knew I didn’t want to just close the hole like many online recommendations had said, partially because that would be boring and partially because I knew I wouldn’t be able to match the design and color. That led me to looking for other more fun ways to repair the hole which then reminded me I had a shirt that I loved but had stained accidentally so I stopped wearing it. This shirt had Pikmin embroidered onto it. I decided to cut out one of the Pikmin from the shirt and sew it onto the inside of the sweater to fill the hole and create a peek-a-boo visual with the Pikmin. This was likely not the best first sewing project but it worked out in the end. I spent 2 hours working on this project partially due to learning how to use a sewing machine and partially because sewing onto knit fabric is not the easiest project. Overall I am very happy with this sweater and look forward to sewing the rest of the Pikmin onto other things and further mending my clothes to lengthen their lifetimes.

A selfie of a person wearing a sweater and jeans, focused on the sweater pattern. The sweater is dark gray with light gray swirly horizontal stripes, skinny black jagged horizontal stripes, and a thin red stripe goin across the torso and around each arm. At the bottom of the torso, near the belly button, a little red pikmin (small video game bipedal creature with a flower on its head) is sewn into the pattern.
