My great-grandmother was a quilter, and some of my earliest memories are of tagging along with her to church auctions where her work would sell for hundreds of dollars. At the time, I didn’t fully appreciate what went into each quilt—just that people seemed to value them as much as she did. Even now, years after her passing, her quilts are still part of my everyday life, a constant reminder of the care and craftsmanship she poured into each piece.
Wanting to better understand that effort, I decided to make a quilt of my own. Four months later, I finished my first one—an experience that gave me a whole new appreciation for her skill and patience. Using the Design Lab sewing machine to add the final edge binding felt like a fitting last step. I’m proud of how it turned out, but more than that, I’m curious to see how it holds up over time. If it lasts even a fraction as long as hers have, I’ll consider it a success.
