Bottle Stickers for a Cause

Our project, Heartbeat in a Bottle, works in conjunction with the Michigan Medicine intensive care unit and the Internal Medicine Residency program. The aim of this project is to provide the families of recently deceased patients with a memorial token of their loved one - a bottle with a heart rhythm strip inside. Our hope is to help families in their grieving process while helping healthcare workers ward off burnout, two entities that have been magnified by the COVID pandemic.

Our team sought out the help of the Shapiro Design Lab to help with the preparation of the bottles. In conjunction with the GHHS national organization, we wanted to develop a sticker to place on the bottles before we gift them to families. This process could not have been more streamlined. I reached out to the design lab for help and was put in touch with Ray, a Design Lab Program Assistant, who was instrumental in making our vision a reality. They asked thoughtful questions about the project and immediately felt like a teammate. It became clear that Ray had a great design sense and deep knowledge of the capabilities of the Design Lab. They took the time to guide me through the process. In just a few short hours, we had everything we needed. The final product looks amazing. We are excited to begin gifting them to families.

I cannot recommend the Shapiro Design Lab highly enough. It is a great asset to have as a Michigan student. The staff is incredibly helpful, the resources are plentiful, and it is an enjoyable environment to be in. I appreciate all of the work that Ray and the team put in for us!
