In this post I will be sharing how I made the short video around the central diag of the University of Michigan.
The video was created at the intersection of many technologies, and was a learning experience for me while I figured out a way in which to do this.
There are 2 main components to the creation of the video, the shooting of the video itself and the video stabilization, as well as the motion used in order to capture the video.
Firstly, the smoothness of the video was accomplished as a combination of 2 things:
Built in video stabilization of the Samsung Galaxy S8
Use of the DJI Osmo Mobile 2 smartphone gimbal
In order to travel around campus at such speeds and so smoothly, I used my own custom built Electric Longboard.
The video itself was simply made with the default samsung camera app, while the DJI osmo was in stabilization mode. The DJI osmo app was not used, as the version of the app available didn’t allow for recording in as high of definition as my phone’s default camera app.
To get around campus, I used a custom built electric longboard. Essentially it is a longboard with batteries and electric motors attached to the back wheels to provide propulsion.
