Computer & Video Game Archive - Fall Reopening Details

Welcome back! We are very excited to announce the reopening of the Computer & Video Game Archive (CVGA) this Fall, starting on Tuesday, August 31st.

We are reopening with a new service model—outlined below—which will help us provide you with a space that is safer to visit as we adjust our services around COVID-19. While hours will be limited at first, we plan to expand our hours later in the semester once we have settled into the new service model and increased our staffing capacity.

Make a Reservation

Walk-in use is no longer available in the CVGA. We are still open for all users, but are now requiring reservations to use the CVGA.

How to make a reservation:

  • Members of the U-M community: Visit our reservation page
  • Members of the public: Email us to request a reservation at video.games@umich.edu

Click on “Info” to see a list of which game systems are available at each game station, and choose your game station accordingly. Reservations must be made in advance. Same-day reservations are not allowed, and reserving multiple game stations at the same time is also not permitted.

You can find out more specific policies on our reservation page.

What You Need to Bring

You will need an Mcard or picture ID in order to use the CVGA. In accordance with University of Michigan policy, all persons must wear a face mask while in campus buildings (regardless of vaccination status). Please visit our reservation page for up-to-date information about COVID-19 restrictions.

Request a Tour

Are you interested in taking a tour of the CVGA without reserving time to play games on one of our game stations? Email us at video.games@umich.edu at least 1 week in advance to request a tour.

Arrange for Your Class to Meet in the CVGA

Instructors, are you interested in having your class meet in the CVGA? Please email us at video.games@umich.edu at least 1 week in advance and let us know when you’d like to set up a meeting, as well as which games/equipment you’d like to have set up during your visit.

Please note that our current capacity is set at 15 people in the CVGA space due to COVID-19 restrictions; so for larger classes, we may need to split them into smaller groups. We will accommodate your needs as best as we can.

Request Priority Access for Research Needs

If you plan to work on a game-related class assignment or research project in the CVGA, please fill out our online research form. We will work with you regarding special access needs and accommodations.

Special Events

Please note that we are not holding special events in the CVGA during this time, including hosting events for student groups.
