Join us via Zoom next Tuesday 13 April at 4 pm EDT for our last After Hours virtual open house of the term.
As part of the campus celebration of Arab Heritage Month, this virtual open house will explore a selection of classical and medieval literary and scholarly Arab writers and their writings through Arabic manuscripts preserved in the Islamic Manuscripts Collection.
Carefully transcribed copies of classic literary works by al-Mutanabbī (d.965), Abū al-ʻAlāʼ al-Maʻarrī (d.1057), and al-Ḥarīrī (d.1122) will be featured (in images and video!) along with influential grammatical, scientific, and mystical writings -- even a text on musical theory and performance.
Curator Evyn Kropf will introduce the collection and the manuscripts and Professor Samer Ali will share reflections on how the poetry of al-Mutanabbī can resonate with us today.
