Special Collections After Hours: Altman at 50

Join us online next Tuesday (12 October) at 4 pm EDT for the second event of our Fall 2021 After Hours  series -- "Altman at 50: Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Three Altman Releases: M*A*S*H, Brewster McCloud, and McCabe & Mrs. Miller." In this virtual open house, Screen Arts Mavericks and Makers Collection curator Phil Hallman will lead on us on a photographic journey through Robert Altman’s films. M*A*S*H propelled Altman to the top of noted film directors, and over the next four decades he worked with many leading actors, releasing nearly 40 films that poked, prodded, and punched at U.S. culture, particularly satirizing its institutions. Altman was noted for subverting genres and using overlapping dialogue. His method of storytelling was so unique that the Oxford English Dictionary included the term “Altmanesque" in their 2018 edition. This presentation will draw from the Special Collections Research Center’s Robert Altman collection — a massive array of some 700 boxes containing documents, scripts, photos, props, costumes, and paraphernalia related to the enormously influential career of a cinematic titan.

Register for the event via Zoom.

We hope you'll be able to join us!
