This anonymous portrait appears in a recently acquired photograph album containing 69 print photographs of various sizes mounted on card. The photographs feature portraits of people and landscapes of Algeria and Tunisia taken in 1910 approximately. These images provide us with insights into ethnic costumes, clothing and dress codes of North African indigenous people during the first decade of the 20th century. Included with the album is an accompanying guide with captions in English and French.
Newly catalogued, the album and guide can be requested for viewing in the Special Collections reading room.
Update from September 2022: All the 69 images with the accompanying metadata are now available online here.
